Cymbidium Orchid ‘Black Jack’ produces dramatic, richly toned blooms in deep burgundy to near-black shades, creating a striking and contemporary floral display. Its tall, arching flower spikes carry densely packed blossoms that deliver strong visual impact and sculptural elegance. This bold Cymbidium variety is ideal for modern interiors, luxury gifting, or statement arrangements where depth and contrast are key design features. Flowering over an extended seasonal period, it offers a refined presence with lasting ornamental value, making it a standout addition to any orchid collection.

Carefully prepared for a luxury finish, each Cymbidium orchid is hand-selected, professionally wrapped, and delivered across the UK in excellent condition, ready to create a lasting impression from the moment it arrives.

Please note: 14cm pot sizes, when available below are taller than a typical 14cm pot. We recommend choosing a 15cm or larger decorative pot to accommodate the additional depth of a 14cm nursery pot. This will avoid the nursery pot protruding from the top of your ceramic pot.

Please note: Ceramic pots are sold separately.

Caring For Your Cambria Orchid

Lighting
Cymbidium orchids prefer bright, indirect light. Place them near east or west-facing windows, shielding them from direct sunlight. Unlike Phalaenopsis, Cymbidiums can tolerate more light and even benefit from some gentle morning sun. In the UK, they can be moved outdoors during summer months to a partially shaded spot.

Watering
Water Cymbidiums thoroughly when the top inch of the potting mix feels dry, typically every 7-10 days. During active growth in spring and summer, they may need more frequent watering. In winter, reduce watering to weekly or fortnightly. Use rainwater or filtered water if possible, especially in hard water areas. Ensure good drainage and never let the plant sit in water.

Humidity
Maintain humidity levels between 50-70% for Cymbidiums. This can be achieved through regular misting or placing a tray of water near the orchids. They are generally more tolerant of lower humidity than some other orchid varieties.

Temperature
Cymbidiums prefer cooler temperatures than many other orchids. Daytime temperatures should be between 18-24°C, with night temperatures ideally dropping to 10-14°C. They can tolerate winter temperatures as low as 10°C. A clear difference between day and night temperatures, especially in late summer, helps stimulate flower bud formation.

Fertilisation
During the growing season (spring to early autumn), feed Cymbidiums every 2-3 weeks with a balanced orchid fertiliser. In summer and autumn, switch to a high-potassium fertiliser to encourage flowering. Reduce or stop feeding during the winter months. Always use a weaker solution than recommended on the package to avoid over-fertilisation.

Repotting
Repot Cymbidiums every 2-3 years, preferably in late spring after flowering. Use a well-draining orchid mix with bark, perlite, and coconut coir. When repotting, trim any dead or rotten roots and divide large plants if necessary. Choose a pot that allows for 2-3 years of growth, as Cymbidiums prefer to be slightly pot-bound.

About Cymbidium Orchids

Cymbidium orchids, commonly known as Boat Orchids, are a genus of evergreen flowering plants in the orchid family Orchidaceae. They are renowned for their stunning, long-lasting blooms and are among the oldest cultivated orchids, with a history dating back over 2,500 years in ancient China.

Cymbidiums are highly prized for their decorative flower spikes, which are often used as cut flowers or in corsages. Their long-lasting blooms make them a favourite among orchid collectors and florists.

Cymbidium orchids are renowned for their exceptionally long-lasting flowers, which can remain vibrant and fresh for several months. Unlike many other orchids, whose blooms may last only a few weeks, Cymbidium flowers can persist for 8 to 12 weeks or even longer under optimal conditions.
